I needed to take a break from reading after I finished A Little Life. It's so relentlessly bleak. And We Need to Talk About Kevin came out when my son was an early teen and it freaked me out so much I couldn't finish it. What I'm realizing as I type this comment is that I'm not built for fiction that leaves a mark.
Honestly I'm OFTEN not built for it and I need palate cleansers after because "relentlessly bleak" is a perfect description. Like, statistically you'd think Jude could run into some good things now and then but NO.
OK NO - should I? Tilda feels like the PERFECT and UNSETTLING casting. But literally I viscerally remember toward the end of the book saying OH NO out loud
YEAH I think so. It's an experience!!!! If nothing else a very interesting example of an adaptation. Both different from and faithful to the book. It felt like an IMPOSSIBLE thing to adapt to me and I think it's mostly pulled off. Though the book hit me harder.

I HAVE read We Need to Talk... and I also want (need?) to talk about it. Have you seen the film version???
