Agreed on standing ovations (I still stand when everyone else does rather than being perceived as that judgy holdout. I would be called a late/last adopter of a given standing-o. Meh-commedations is one of my favorite issues now.
I do the exaaaact thing 99% of the time, slowly and grumpily unfolding my body like that makes any difference and like anyone is actually paying attention.

CONCUR all around! YES to the standing O being just a standard thing now. Like, dare I say it, tipping culture? If everything happened to the minimum standard then a 25% tip and a standing O! What do we do now when something is truly exceptional?
